What we see most

Why a code reader on its own is not diagnostics
A fault code tells you which circuit the car is unhappy about. It does not tell you why. A code naming a sensor can be a failed sensor, or it can be the wiring to it, a split hose upstream, a blocked filter, or a completely different fault that the sensor is reporting honestly.
That is the difference between replacing parts until the light goes out and finding the fault. Replacing parts is quicker. It is also how people end up paying three times for the same problem.
1. We listen
When it happens, how often, hot or cold, what changed just before. Half of diagnostics is the history.
2. We read and we record
Fault codes and live data, on the road as well as standing still, because a lot of faults will not show in the car park.
3. We test the part, not the code
Circuit, signal, supply and earth. We prove what has failed before we recommend replacing anything.
4. You get it in plain English
What is wrong, what it will cost, and what happens if you leave it. In writing, with a video.

Diagnostics is a strength here, but we are not an auto electrician and we will not pretend otherwise.

Questions we get asked
Can I drive with the engine light on?
A steady light usually means get it looked at soon. A flashing light usually means stop driving, because it often points at a misfire that can damage the catalytic converter. If it is flashing, ring us.
Another garage fitted a part and the light came back
That is a very common reason people end up here. Bring it in and tell us what has already been changed, it saves us both time.
Will you just clear the code for me?
Clearing a code without fixing the cause only hides it until the car decides to tell you again, usually at a worse moment. We will find out why it is there first.
Do you work on my make?
