Why this one matters more than the rest
The cambelt keeps the top of your engine turning in time with the bottom. On most modern engines, if the belt snaps while the engine is running, the valves and the pistons end up in the same place at the same time. That is not a repair, that is an engine. Which is why every manufacturer sets a replacement interval and why we will not fudge it.
There is no warning light for a tired cambelt and you cannot tell by driving it. The only thing that protects you is the interval.
When is yours due
It is set by the manufacturer, by age and by mileage, whichever comes first. Depending on the engine that is usually somewhere between 60,000 and 100,000 miles, or every four to six years. Some engines are much sooner. It is engine specific, not a rule of thumb, so do not guess.

The part everyone knows about. Rubber, and it ages whether you drive the car or not.
The tensioner and idlers
They wear at the same rate as the belt. Leaving the old ones on a new belt is how a job gets done twice.
The water pump, on most engines
On a lot of engines the pump is driven by the same belt and sits behind the same covers. Doing it now costs parts. Doing it later costs the whole job again.
Anything we find on the way
Leaks, perished hoses, a weeping seal. You get a video of it and a price, and you decide.

How do I know if I have a belt or a chain?
Send us the registration. We will tell you in a message, and if it is a chain we will tell you that too, even though it means we are turning the work away.
The car drives fine, do I really need it?
A cambelt gives no symptoms before it fails. Driving fine is not evidence that it is healthy. The interval is the only guide.
I have low mileage, does that help?
Only partly. The belt ages on time as well as mileage, so the years matter as much as the miles. Whichever comes first is the rule.
Does the water pump have to be done?
Not always, it depends on the engine. We will tell you whether yours is driven off the cambelt before you commit, not after.
Is the work guaranteed?
Yes. 12 months or 12,000 miles on parts and labour, whichever comes first.
