Anyone can call themselves a good garage. We had to prove it.
The RAC does not hand its name out. To carry the RAC Approved badge a garage has to be inspected, meet their standards on equipment, staff, pricing and customer care, and then keep meeting them. We pay for that inspection, and we pass it. That is the point of it.
✓ We are checked by someone who is not us. An outside body walks in, looks at the workshop, the equipment, the paperwork and how we treat people. Our opinion of ourselves does not come into it.
✓ Our prices have to be transparent. Written estimates before work, and no charging for anything you did not agree to. That is not our policy being generous. It is a condition of holding the badge.
✓ Our work has to be guaranteed. 12 months or 12,000 miles on parts and labour, and a proper complaints route if something is not right.
✓ We have to keep passing. It is not a certificate you get once and frame. Standards are re-checked, and a garage that slips loses it.

An independent judgement, not ours
The RAC inspects the garage. Equipment, technician competence, how work is recorded, how customers are treated. If we were not up to standard we would not be allowed to display the name, and we pay for the privilege of being checked.
A written price before the work
Approved garages have to quote in writing and cannot charge for work you did not authorise. On top of that we send you a video of the fault so you can see what you are agreeing to.
A guarantee that means something
12 months or 12,000 miles on parts and labour. If something is not right after you leave, bring it back and we put it right.
Somewhere to go if we get it wrong
A proper complaints route, to us first at customercare@vscltd.co.uk, and to the RAC if we do not resolve it. Most garages cannot offer you that.
